Basement Conversion – High end premium Cinema including lighting

The client came in to us to say he had recently bought a house that he was renovating. He was looking for lighting control throughout the house plus the outside lights. The client also wanted a Cinema system in the basement but preferably an integrated option rather than a dedicated room. This area was going to have a pool table, arcade machine and a bar, with a Cinema system at the other end of the room.

Artcoustic speakers were recommended as an obvious choice because they are discreet yet provide very high quality performance. In the discussions, the client really liked the Idea of a drop-down projector screen that could be built into a custom-made cabinet and bookcase that would span the entire wall. We worked closely with the client’s builder to make sure the screen would fit neatly into the custom cabinet. A projector lift was also installed into the ceiling to hide the projector when not in use. The equipment was planned to be to housed in a cupboard adjacent to the Cinema room so we recommended a programmable remote from Control4 to provide ease of use over the system.

Once completed, the client only has to select from the ‘watch’ list of sources and the system then turns on all the necessary components – the screen drops down, the projector turns on and drops down from the ceiling in the lift mechanism, the RGB LED strip lights, down-lights and wall lights (all controlled via Rako) dim to the pre-programmed film setting and the near silent Lutron blinds softly close to block out the natural light to the room, creating the perfect environment to enjoy a blockbuster film. Other elements of the system involved programming the outside lights to come on automatically when it gets dark for a few hours in the evening if the house is occupied. Also the driveway lights have been programmed to come on when the gates open but only if it is night time. We also integrated the lights to the house alarm system so that, in the event of the alarm going off, all the downstairs lights come on and the exterior lights flash.

The client is extremely happy with the end result and loves the system.
